Claire Brindis, DrPH, MPH: Dr. Brindis is a Professor in the Division of Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is Executive Director of the National Adolescent Health Information Center and Associate Director of the Information and Analysis Center for Middle Childhood and Adolescence; both organizations are sponsored by the Division of Adolescent Medicine and funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Among her current projects Dr. Brindis is evaluating three statewide programs implemented by the California Department of Health Services.

Susana Martínez Estrella: Ms. Martinez Estrella has served as a legal advisor to the State Congress in Baja California Sur since 1996.  Prior to that she was a legal researcher for the State Human Rights Commission in Jalisco.  She has extensive experience working to advance the situation of women and young people through advocacy and the development  of legal initiatives.  She holds a law degree from the University of Guadalajara.

Dr. Juan Guillermo Figueroa Perea: Dr. Figueroa Perea is a professor and researcher at El Colegio de México.  He is renown nationally and internationally for his work and has published eight books in areas related to reproductive behavior, health and sexuality.  The English titles of these books are: The Regulation of the Fertility in Mexico (1993); Ethics and Reproductive Health (1996); The Condition of the Women in the Space of Health (1998); Elements for an Ethical Analysis in the Reproduction (2001); Sexuality and Reproductive Health:  Progress and Challenges for Research (2001); Ethics, Religion, and Reproduction:  Notes for Discussion (2002); and To be a Father, Husband and Son: Practices and Valorizations of Some Méxican Males (2006).  He has a MA and PHD in Sociology and in Social Demography.

Dr. Griselda Gutiérrez Castañeda: Dr. Gutierrez Castñeda has a Doctorate in Political Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) where she currently is part of the faculty in the school of Philosophy.  She has also served as the coordinator of the Gender Studies program at UNAM. Dr. Gutiérrez Castañeda has participated in numerous high level seminars, including more than 120 national and 13 international conferences. She has authored and collaborated on numerous books and articles in political philosophy from a gender perspective.

Patricia Kavanaugh, NP: Ms. Kavanaugh has more than forty years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in the Sonoma County Health Department, CA. She founded the Centro Mujeres’ clinic in 1991 and has since been a long-standing supporter of women’s and adolescent’s reproductive rights. 

Dr. Ruben Aguilar Valenzuela: Dr. Aguilar is the former press secretary for president Vincente Fox, journalist, and founder of the Salpress news agency. He holds a Doctorate in Social Science from University Iberoamericana and is currently an international consultant in strategic planning and evaluation.

Veronica Valenzuela: Ms. Valenzuela is an established journalist and editor with a degree in Anthropology from the Universidad Iberoamericana. She has written dozens of articles and reports for top international media outlets, such El Financiero and the renowned weekly political magazine Siempre!

Valerie Vogel, MSWMs. Vogel is a clinical social worker and independent consultant in the Pacific Northwest. She has 25 years of experience working with adolescents and their families, providing juvenlie rehabilitation, drug and alcohol intervention, and adventure-based therapy for at-risk youth. Ms. Vogel has participated in extensive volunteer activities with the American Red Cross Disaster Services and Language Bank, offering emotional support for people with HIV/AIDS at Shanti and assisting Centro Mujeres. She has a Master of Social Work from Hunter College and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from the University of Washington.
