Centro Mujeres asserts that reproductive rights are a human right is committed to providing heavily subsidized health services for all women and adolescents in need in La Paz and the surrounding areas. Without Centro Mujeres most of the women and adolescents we consult would would have nowhere else to turn to for emergency assistance, clinical care, and counseling services.

In addition to their work in the community, Centro Mujeres received more than two thousand visitors during 2005-2007: 

Medical Consultation
Our small clinic is staffed by paraprofessionals and a physician. Services include cervical and breast cancer prevention and screenings, pregnancy testing, family planning counseling and counseling for other reproductive and sexual health-related issues. We refer IUD and contraception-related surgery cases to the local public health community center. We also offer teen-specific counseling and materials to area youth during business hours.

Psychological Counseling
Centro Mujeres employs one part-time psychologist who offers  counseling to community people in crisis. Clients seek support on issues ranging from domestic abuse to sexual identity.

Orientation and Referrals
Centro Mujeres performs initial diagnoses, counseling and check-ups. Patients with greater clinical needs are referred to the appropriate agencies.
In instances of domestic or gender violence, Centro Mujeres does primary intervention and follow-up on these multi-referral cases to ensure appropriate health care and legal intervention.

Prophylactics and Emergency Contraception
Centro Mujeres distributes free condoms to the community as part of our HIV/AIDS, STI and pregnancy prevention work. Pregnancy tests and emergency pill treatments are also available through the Center.

Library
Centro Mujeres offers one of the region’s only documenation center on adolescents, women’s health, community organizing and gender equity. Our library has more than 2,000 books, magazines, newspaper articles and videos and is open to the public during business hours.
